A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Lisa C. Bono, CP, FRP
Dear Members: It is hard to believe that the end of another year is just around the corner. How quickly the years roll by - My Mum used to tell me "Enjoy Life - This is not a Dress Rehearsal" !! When she passed, I brought a framed picture of stamped artwork that she had done to my office and placed it where I could see it every day...to force myself to remember what she told me. I know it is difficult to do so, when you are under the daily stress, that is the typical "life of a busy paralegal".
I hope you were all able to relax during the summer months. I had the pleasure of attending my son, Ryan's graduation from Florida Atlantic University in August - now he is off to the fire academy and paramedic school.
We had an exciting start to our Fall Season. At our August meeting, Heather L. Hughes, J.D., spoke to us on HIPAA and How It Affects Discovery. Then, in September, Jonathan S. Robbins, Esquire, spoke on the Nuts & Bolts of a Commercial Litigation Case and how this area of law has been affected by today's economy.
When October rolled around and I was busy in trial preparation mode, Lisa Marie Macci, Esquire, spoke to us on the Contested Custody Case. I understand that her presentation was well received. I want to thank again, my First Vice President, Carolanne Kelley, FRP, for taking over in my absence. I heard what a professional job she did keeping things moving along - Carolanne, a job well done and greatly appreciated!
We welcomed the Honorable Judge William W. Haury, Jr. to our November 2nd dinner meeting. Judge Haury spoke about his experience in the Drug and Mental Health Sections of the Court and his lecture was interesting and informative.
If you attended our Saturday Seminar on November 5th at the Broward County Bar Association, you had the pleasure of meeting our 3 wonderful speakers: Shari Olefson, Esquire (Foreclosure Fallout: What you Need to Know about the New Rules of the Game), Loring Spolter, Esquire (Defending & Investigating Domestic Violence Cases) and Ethan Wall, Esquire (Web 2.0 - The Effect of Social Networking and the Internet on the Law).
We now move into holiday mode - my favorite time of the year :) Please see details relating to our holiday party and membership drive under "bulletins" on our Chapter Page.
Yes, it has been a busy year for our Chapter and I look forward to 2012. I wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving, a Very Merry Christmas and a Healthy and Happy New Year!
Lisa C. Bono, CP, FRP
